Part 1 | An American Family of Sculptors: The Alexander Calders
By discussing the work of three generations of Calder sculptors, we will better understand the development of sculpture in America. From architectural enhancement and imagery of founding fathers, to the City Beautiful Movement of the late 19th century, to the impact of European Modernism, we begin to see what led to the incorporation of kinetic factors and steel in the work of the best known Calder, Alexander.
